Promote HP's sponsorship of the World Soccer Cup

Accomplishments:

This is the illustration style that was picked to promote Hewlett Packard's part of the World Cup Soccer site. This illustration is one of twelve that YBP created. It was done using Fractal Painter 5.0 (an application now owned by Corel and called just "Painter". It was painted mostly with a cover brush using a grainy flat hard edge filter.

Accomplishments:

One might think that these illustrations are just filters applied to the photographs. In fact, there are a lot of steps to reaching the final product. Because of the copyright laws, one cannot just use a photographer's work and apply filters and have it be "unique".

Accomplishments:

In addition, the proportions of a person in a photograph look short and squat when it is converted to an illustration. Consequently, each player needed to be separated from the background and elongated or distorted until the proportions looked right. Then the uniform was selected to change and intensify the colors.

Accomplishments:

To further create a new composition, the players were sometimes mixed; or the background might be from an entirely different photo.

Accomplishments:

Each element was reassembled and the final steps were to paint over the photos using different brushes and filters. The backgrounds had a different set of filters from the players.

This is just one of many different styles of illustration for Hewlett Packard. The real benefit of this project was the chance to "finger paint" with an application that has some exciting capabilities that produce infinite possibilities. The only thing to limit us was budget.

Another variation which created a completely different result using different settings in Fractal Painter.

Illustration Style 3

Promote HP's sponsorship of the World Soccer Cup

Accomplishments:

This was created with Fractal Painter using the "Brushy" paint brush and a Soft Cover filter. It is finished at the end with a #2B Pencil with a Soft Grainy Buildup filter to delineate the figures. The color of the pencil was changed to a darker value of the hue being was covered.
